On The Job is an Excellent Way to Track Time & Expenses

On The Job by Stunt Software is an excellent way to track your time and expenses, as well as bill your clients by quickly creating professional invoices.

The interface is straightforward and easy to learn. There’s no need for help files. The dialogues and buttons are all clearly labelled. Even though the interface isn’t customizable, you can change things like date formats, deletion confirmation and timer animation.

Invoicing is simple, and you can restrict it to a single job, client and date range. The built-in templates are well crafted, and the editor enables you to create your own. Outstanding invoices are trackable via the sidebar and overdue ones are flagged. Read More...

Review: SensorTower Helps Your Apps Get Ranked

Every so often, we like to review new software and services that are particularly useful.  One that we discovered recently is SensorTower, a keyword based app ranking tracker.

As you may know, we have a number of apps in the App Store and on Google Play, and we were manually checking each app’s rankings. This is a real pain. Also, it’s difficult to find good keywords that perform well. That’s why when we discovered SensorTower, we were thrilled. It has saved us a ton of time.

First off, SensorTower offers an efficient keyword research tool, which gives you all the information in a single window. After you collect a bunch of keywords, you can easily plug them into the search box and see how they perform. Some keywords are extremely competitive, with thousands of apps trying get ranked under them. Others have far fewer apps but much less traffic. The trick is finding a keyword that has a reasonable amount of traffic but isn’t overly competitive. Read More...

Almost every startup needs a great video, but creating a sexy video can get expensive. That’s why I was so excited when I found out about Sparkol.

Startup Tools: Visual Website Optimizer is Like a Second Pair of Eyes

This month, as part of our Startup Tools series, we’re covering Visual Website Optimizer.

Visual Website Optimizer makes it easy to A/B test your site. Why should you care about A/B testing? A/B testing (sometimes called split testing) is comparing two versions of a web page to see which one performs best. You can compare two web pages by showing the two variants (let’s call them A and B) to visitors at the same time. Then you can measure what the visitors do on the site with heat maps and conversion goals.

All websites have goals. News sites need users to click on their ads, ecommerce sites need users to buy products, blogs want users to read more, etc. Every website wants visitors converting from just visitors to something else. The rate at which a website is able to do this is the “conversion rate”. Measuring the performance of a variation (A or B) means measuring the rate at which it converts visitors to goal achievers.
