I actually have interacted with a couple of VC's over the years and found that, as a class, they are usually very helpful and friendly. That doesn't mean they are going to fund you just because you all have a great meet-up, but if they feel your startup is worthwhile they can and will provide other points of contact, good discussion on on further development, etc. Being a VC usually requires being a great “people person”, so a better question might be, which VC's do you want to stay away from (if there are any).
